Running... haven't been doing much there

I am supposed to be running a marathon/ half marathon in the fall. My motivation just has not been there. Lets just start with the fact that it is already warm and humid in the morning here and it is hard to even breath due to that. I would rather be running in snow and ice at home in mid Feb than run here in the summer.

So I need something to get me motivated. Anything... really. I have a training plan and it starts in July, but I just need to have a good base down. Here are the training plans I'm looking at. These are just some basis of what I am going to do, but I'll personalize them.

Hal Higdon Intermediate Half Marathon - This is basically if I'm doing the half, it would be more of a race for me.
Runner's World - Not my favorite plan, but has some work outs I would like to incorporate into my training.

I like going for distances rather than times, so I don't really like Jeff Galloway's plans. Both Hal Higdon and Runner's World have some good plans for the marathon, but I think I might be in between beginner and intermediate there.

USATF has a great running mapping route finder. It uses google maps to find distances. I use it almost everytime I'm finding a new route.

I just need to find some inner motivation or just hire a coach who will yell at me....

Outrageous... and I guarantee you won't hear anything about this on mainstream news

Watch this video on Senate Hearings. There is a law that says that hearings can't go on for more than two hours, if the entire senate doesn't agree to it. I can't find anything except this video about it. If anyone can clue me in a little more to the procedures or what else happened, it would be appreciated.

Do I always think worst case... maybe

I received a call today. It turns out that doctors have found a tumor in one of my relatives colon. My parent's favorite way to call me and leave a message is... "We are having a family emergency, call me back ASAP." Which usually means that someone is dead or almost there. They will not know about my relative sometime this weekend or next week if it is cancer. Let's just hope that things are going to be OK. Maybe I might pull out my Rosary.

My first instinct is to look up everything I can find about the type cancer/ tumors. Does this make me feel any better? No it does not, in fact it just makes me obsess about it more. Why do I do this? Probably because I would rather be prepared for the worst. Maybe it is a bad way to look at life... but hey things can just get better.

Intro

I am currently a 20- something engineering student from the north living in the south for the summer.

I would probably call myself a socially liberal person... so lets just say I'm working with quite a few hicks and I'm not particularly fond of that. One of my favorite conversations since I got down here was about Muslims...

I'm in one of my co-workers offices and one of the truly hick men is in there. He mentions the fact that in Detroit there is the largest concentration of Arabs outside of the Middle East. Lets just start with the fact that he was using Muslim and Arab interchangeably. They are not the same thing, Many Arabs are Muslim, but not all and many Muslims are Arab, but not all. I brought that little fact to his attention and he proceeded to call all "Mus lums" car bombers and that they were trying to get over here to take over our politics like Obama. I decided to just end the conversation there... there really is no way to win with ignorance like that.

I also had a nice little discussion about Multiculturalism, his response "they are moving to the U S of A and they should learn to love it." I'm sure this summer will lead to many more interesting conversations.

I'm also an avid runner, so you will probably see a lot about my running adventures in the heat (I swear I almost died).

That is all for now, stay classy bloggers!!!
